The Modern Myth was formed off an idea in early 2007, during Lewis' [Vocals/Keys/Guitar] writing for his solo music. Songs were being written which fitted a more powerful, electrical soundscape, and so were put aside for the time being. By early 2008, a stockpile of around 50 songs had been written at one stage or another, and after finishing work with other bands at the time, Lewis began going through them all - choosing out the best ones, and working on perfecting them into catchy melodic synth-pop-punk tunes.
During late 2007, Lewis recieved much support for the idea of a full project, and so began working with other musicians to build upon it. A band was quickly arranged in time for the live debut of the band during December, at a school charity gig. Three songs were played, consisting of a cover and two original songs. "Dear, In Your Headlights..." and "Dance! Dance! Dance!" were performed live for the first time with little rehearsal. Following this, the band lay pretty much dormant, until Lewis worked with producer Matt to create the first recorded song with band arrangements, "Hear Me Out". The song features Lewis playing all the instruments by himself, due to time constraints of rehearsing a full band for the recording.
Demoing for newer songs was done on and off, and since recording, the idea of synths and keyboards became far more prominent and the material edged in this new direction. Lewis took time off from The Modern Myth to work on other projects such as his debut solo album, and his electronica material, and the band mutually went on hiatus for the time being.
In late 2008, with a healthy number of strong songs on the board, Lewis resurrected the idea and the band were put back together, in preparation for rehearsing and performing.
